Rose Valley RV Ranch
On a recent trip to New Mexico we stopped for a few days in a town called Silver City, NM. In 1870, a group of American prospectors discovered silver in the hills and the silver rush was on. In ten months, the new town of Silver City grew from a single cabin to over eighty buildings.
Located in the southwest corner of the state Silver City’s “back yard” contains 3.3 million acres of national forest and is our nation’s first congressionally designated wilderness area’s. It is the sixth largest national forest. Hiking, biking, fishing and trail riding are all easily accessible. If fishing is your thing check out Lake Roberts where you can boat, fish and camp.
A short distance from Lake Roberts is where you will find the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument and visitor center. The Gila Cliff Dwellings monument is a 44-mile drive north from Silver City on N Mex 15. The drive time is about 2 hours. Stop at the visitors center to get some information, see exhibits and to checkout the bookstore.
You can pack a lunch and enjoy nature at the picnic areas or camp at the campground. This is truly one of the most beautiful spots in New Mexico.
The topography, the clear blue skies and star filled skies at night makes this a favorite in our travel journal. Check out Silver City and let us know what you think. For more information www.nps.gov/gicl
Traveling by RV?
Since we were traveling by motor coach we had the opportunity to check out a locale RV campground. We stayed at the Rose Valley RV ranch which is located just minutes from the historic downtown area.
Rose Valley is a 44-acre RV ranch that offers furnished bunkhouses (for non - RV folks), wide sites, laundry facilities, courteous staff and free WiFi . This campground can accommodate large rigs with wide and private pull throughs. It is dog friendly, clean and quiet. Each site had a rustic wooden wall that creates a sense of privacy between rigs. If you haven’t had enough activity with hiking and biking they even have a fitness room. What a great find! Our hats are off to owner Kim Hopwood and her staff for making our stay so enjoyable.
