Bessingers Barbecue

This is a restaurant that we found just by driving by. On our way into Charleston for some sightseeing we noticed the packed parking lot at lunchtime. On our way back to the campground we noticed the line of cars wrapped around the building waiting for drive through at dinner time. Now, when you see that kind of traffic at a restaurant you know that something has to be good. So, we decided to give it a try and pulled through the drive through. Many folks think that if your goal is to eat healthy than you cant have barbecue. Thats not true . Remember, its about moderation and staying active. I ordered a pork sandwich. My husband ordered the beans, corn bread and the small order of ribs. All I can say is that I can see why this restaurant was voted Best Barbecue in the entire state of South Carolina. The pork was moist and tender. The sandwich was covered with just the right amount of sauce. Enough for you to know it was barbecue but not so much that you couldnt taste the pork. The beans had a nice balance of barbecue and spice. The corn bread was lightly sweetened, light in texture and moist. This restaurant has been around since the mid 40s and I can see why. This restaurant offers sit down or drive through. If youre ever in the Charleston area check it out. Remember, moderation here. Savor the meal and enjoy the experience.
