I opened up my emails this morning to find an e-newsletter from someone called - The Health Ranger. Mike Adams the so-called Health Ranger has a problem with Michael Phelps. Now unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last few weeks, you’re aware that Michael Phelps is the US swimmer who has won eight gold medals at the Olympics. Apparently, Phelps has just signed an endorsement contract with Kellogg’s. This endorsement is what has the Health Ranger so upset.

Were You Born To Be A Couch Potato?

I never would have thought that it was possible to be born a couch potato but our own Doc Rocket, Dr Tim Lightfoot has research findings from his laboratory that say “Yes it’s possible”.

Check your waist size! Would you shape up or pay up?

The Japanese government recently started a new corporate health initiative. Companies are now required to give employee’s aged 40 to 74 a waist measurement at their annual health check ups. Why now? Because currently 5% of the Japanese population is now considered obese and government officials are concerned. The government believes that avoiding disease caused by unhealthy diet and lack of exercise is critical to keeping down the country’s burgeoning health care costs.

Should you pay extra if you’re fat?

The Parade magazine, which is an insert in newspapers nationwide, is conducting a poll. Should obese fliers be required to buy two seats if their girth prevents them from lowering the armrest that divides the seat?

Apparently Southwest Airlines will be pulling passengers aside and, because of their weight they will be required to purchase a second ticket. If the flight is not full, the passenger will qualify for a refund.

Tips for Maintaining Exercise Routines during Travel

As an exercise physiologist in the health and wellness field what I have heard from my clients over the years is how traveling and staying true to their workout routines is a challenge. Staying active whether traveling for business or fun is a challenge for most. I know it has been for me over the years. Sometimes there is a time issue, the change of routine and schedule or an unfamiliar workout facility that makes exercise on the road difficult.
